The most commonly used spherical lens in an optical system is a spherical surface whose surface is rotationally symmetrical, that is, has a constant curvature from the center to the edge of the lens. The Aspheric Collimating Lens/Focusing Lens is a surface that is rotationally symmetric and not spherical, that is a rotationally symmetric surface that conforms to a specific expression and the surface is smooth and continuous.

There are three types of aspheric surfaces used in optical systems: the first category is axisymmetric aspheric surfaces, such as conical surfaces of revolution and high-order surfaces of revolution; the second category is aspheric surfaces with two symmetrical surfaces, such as cylinders and toric surfaces; The third category is free-form surfaces without symmetry.
Aspheric Collimating Lens/ Focusing Lens No matter whether there are any measurement errors and manufacturing errors, spherical aberration will appear. The most notable advantage of an aspheric lens is that it can minimize aberrations by adjusting and optimizing the conic constant and aspheric coefficient.
Compared with the conventional method of correcting spherical aberration by increasing the number of lenses, aspheric lenses can achieve better aberration correction with fewer lenses, for example, zoom lenses that generally use ten or more lenses, One or two aspherical lenses can be used instead of five or six spherical lenses to achieve the same or higher optical effect, reducing the length and complexity of the system.
In addition, optical systems that use more optical components often have strict requirements on mechanical tolerances, add additional calibration steps, and require more anti-reflection coatings, thereby reducing the overall practicality of the system. Therefore, the use of aspheric lenses in the optical system (although the price of aspheric lenses is more expensive than single-piece lenses and doublet lenses with the same F number) will reduce the cost of the overall system.
In general, the rational use of Aspheric Collimating Lens/Focusing Lens in the optical system has an irreplaceable position in realizing the miniaturization, light weight, and multi-function of the optical system.
