Application principle of quality Beam Expander

With the vigorous development of the optical industry, Beam Expander products have gradually covered all walks of life, constantly facing many new fields and new problems. In this case, we need to persevere in exploration, divergent thinking, and overcome the fortresses of problems, in order to be one step ahead and invincible.

quality Beam Expander

The quality Beam Expander is a lens assembly capable of changing the diameter and divergence angle of the laser beam. Usually we take the divergence parameter of the beam as the characteristic of a perfect Gaussian laser beam. Divergence is when a light wave spreads out at a certain angle during its spatial propagation. Even perfect rays without any field experience some beam divergence due to diffraction effects. Diffraction refers to the bending effect of light when an opaque object, such as a knife edge, is cut. The unfolding results from the secondary wavefront array emanating from the cut edge. These secondary waves will interfere with the main wave, and at the same time, they will also interfere with each other, and at some point a complex diffraction pattern will be formed. Diffraction makes perfectly collimated beams impossible, or the inability to focus the beam to an infinitesimal point. Fortunately the effect of diffraction can be calculated.

The traditional quality Beam Expander consists of two single lenses (focusing mirrors), which facilitate collimation in order to minimize aberrations and achieve diffraction-limited functionality. The beam expander uses the Galilean type, which has no focal point and has a short beam expander length. The new compact beam expander is only 44.7mm long.

For easy remote control, we have also introduced the quality Beam Expander. The electric motor drives the mechanical parts in order to change the beam divergence angle. The infinitely adjustable quality Beam Expander ensures compliance with the high precision requirements required in laser material processing.
